OUR LEADERS
Tony Hodge
Tony was appointed Pastor of NCC in January 2007, moving from Trinity Life Church Royston where he served on the leadership team for 12 years. He became a Christian in 1976 while at The University of Hertfordshire studying Applied Biology and where he also met his wife Jan. They have both served in a number of capacities in their local church, Jan leading a variety of children’s works from mothers and toddlers to Sunday School including children’s camps and publishing books of teaching materials while Tony concentrated on church administration, serving as Administrator and Treasurer of TLC for 9 years before moving to more pastoral activities leading and supervising Cell groups.

Tony’s passion is for church as a community of people from all walks of life who share a common love of Jesus and a commitment to support and build each other up in faith. He also firmly believes that the local church should be a part of its community and at the cutting edge of community action. Following a secular career in biological research and science administration, Tony has followed God’s call into full-time ministry and the leadership of Newmarket Community Church.

Tony’s interests and hobbies include photography, space, sport, cinema and music from Mozart to Muse. He and Jan have two grown up daughters and one son-in-law.

Helen Parker
Helen has lived in Newmarket for over 20 years. She has been at NCC since it was first planted out from Isleham Baptist Church. Helen studied Economics and Accounts at Reading University before returning to the area to qualify as a Chartered Accountant in Cambridge.

Now married with two young children she works full time as a lecturer in Business, Economics and Accounts at West Suffolk College and has recently completed her PGCE course to gain fully qualified teaching status.

Helen has trained as a Town Pastor and spends one evening each month patrolling the streets of Newmarket, with others from the local churches, helping vulnerable people out for the night. She preaches as often as her schedule allows and has recently helped to launch the CAP Money course which will be running from January 2010.

Helen's hobbies have to fit in around family life but when time permits she enjoys camping, DIY around the house, computing and more recently the gym.

John Hummersone
John has been part of NCC since 1986 when he moved to Newmarket from Kent. He is married to Alba, a native of New York (!) who teaches at Lakenheath Elementary School (on the Airbase). They have a number of grandchildren on both sides of the Atlantic...

He is a chartered public sector accountant (CPFA) and has held a number of senior local government finance positions before setting up his own consultancy business in 2005. He is a ‘can do’ accountant!

John has served in many different capacities at NCC over the years and can turn his hand to many things but his passion is probably in worship and he leads the Worship Team. John is also Chair of the Trustees of NCC and does the book keeping and accounts. He enjoys gardening, DIY and getting immersed in spreadsheets or music.

Above all he enjoys spending time with his family, and working with and getting to know people.
